Our journey began when Dede Chandra, the founder of Fortuna Shoes, made shoes for girls aged from 2 years old at his home in the Ciateul Tengah area, Bandung City in 1969.
1995 was the heyday of the shoe industry. However, to compete, many shoe factories also sold shoes at low prices, without maintaining its quality. We did not want to put our quality at stake. For that, we started to innovate. The moccasin, golf shoes to heavy-duty shoes that we made back then always made us a leading high-quality leather shoemaker in Indonesia. The premium quality that we maintained has led us to grow more, production capacity continually increased, from 25 pairs to 50 pairs to 250 pairs.
The monetary crisis around 1998 hit all sectors including the shoe industry and we were also severely affected. This crisis was a turning point for Dede Chandra and Fortuna Shoes. In that difficult moment, we tried to challenge ourselves to make shoes with a construction that is considered the best yet the most difficult construction until today, Handwelted Goodyear Method Construction.
Besides learning the right method from senior European shoe craftsmen, we also strived to find the finest material from Indonesia to Italy. Our persistence turned into a success. Men's leather shoes made by us are now comparable to European fine leather shoes.
By always keeping the right fundamentals and high standards, our shoes have been accepted in Italy, Germany, Holland, France, England, and Japan. To date, we have a production capacity of 50,000 pairs of shoes annually for export to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Europe, and the United States.
